An ARM for the ADA Compliant Science Lab

Thursday, July 26, marked the 22nd anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which was signed into law by President George H. W. Bush in 1990. Valerie Bowman Jarrett, a senior advisor to President Obama as well as the head of the Office of Public Engagement, shared some remarks on the occasion.

“This law was based on the fundamental principal that Americans with disabilities should have the same basic rights and opportunities as everyone else, and it established America as a world leader on disability rights.” Two years ago, during the 20th anniversary, the president extended those rights by asking the Federal Government to represent an example of a hiring institution that employs citizens with disabilities. “Equal access,” he said. “Equal opportunity. The freedom to make our lives what we will. These aren’t principles that belong to any one group or any one political party. They are common principles. They are American principles.”

In 22 years, we’ve come a long way. But especially in the classroom. Take the science lab, for example, and check out the Adjustable Rotating Mechanism (ARM), built with machined aluminum & composite materials. ADA Compliant, of course, Diversified Woodcrafts designed this inspiring feature for the Wheelchaired Student. It fits all existing DWI Tables, with a top that gives a full 360-degree rotation and an arm that rotates 270-degrees.
